White Quartzite: The Marble Look, Without the Etching
Clients come to us asking for Calacatta. Then we tell them what Calacatta does when it meets a lemon. White quartzite is the answer for anyone who wants that bright, veined marble look in a kitchen that actually gets used. It is a metamorphic sandstone around 7 on the Mohs scale, it does not react to acid and, with no resin inside, it never yellows in sunlight.
The catch is the label. White is the colour where stone gets mislabelled most often, because dolomite and some marbles look almost identical to quartzite under yard lights. So with white, the test comes before the slab.
Types of White Quartzite Work We Fabricate
Marble-Look White Quartzite
Whites with grey or soft gold veining that read like Calacatta or Carrara. These are the lots we test hardest, and the ones clients fall for fastest.
White Quartzite Islands
A white island with bold veining is a classic GTA kitchen. Most islands up to about 10 feet come from one slab. We plan the vein direction with you on the slab itself.
White Vanity Tops
White quartzite vanities stay bright and handle hair products, toothpaste and the odd nail polish remover spill without etching.
Lot Etch Testing
We test every white lot with lemon, vinegar and a glass scratch before you buy. It is free and it is the most valuable 15 minutes of your project.
How to Tell Real White Quartzite From Dolomite
| Test | Real Quartzite | Dolomite / Marble |
|---|---|---|
| Lemon juice, 5 minutes | No change | Dull ring (etch) |
| Vinegar | No reaction | Slow fizz or dull spot |
| Glass scratch | Scratches the glass | Does not scratch glass |
| Knife scratch | No mark | May scratch |
| Mohs hardness | About 7 | 3-4 |
We follow the general ASTM C616 approach for quartz-based stone and record every result with the slab lot number. If a lot fails, we tell you and move on. Nine times out of ten, a white “quartzite” that etched in somebody’s kitchen never got tested.

Where White Quartzite Works Best
Kitchens with lots of natural light. No resin means no yellowing next to big south-facing windows.
Main and spice kitchens. In Angus Glen and Castlemore, we often quote both together so they share slab yield and match perfectly.
Ensuites. White quartzite vanities stay bright and handle hair dye and cosmetics.
Caring for White Quartzite
Wipe spills the same day, especially oil, turmeric and coffee. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Reseal every 18 months, and do a quick water-drop test near the sink once a year. If anything ever does mark, our quartzite polishing and restoration team can usually lift it in one visit.
