Caring for Quartzite Is Simpler Than You Think
Quartzite is one of the easiest natural stones to live with. It is a metamorphic sandstone around 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than steel, heat tolerant past 300C and resistant to acids from citrus and wine. Care comes down to three things: clean it with the right products, build a couple of good habits and reseal it every 18 months.
Done right, quartzite is like a vintage leather jacket: it ages into character instead of out of it, carries a story in every vein and still looks right 15 years later.

Daily Cleaning
Warm water, a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a microfibre cloth. That is it. Dry polished surfaces after wiping to avoid water spots.
pH-Neutral Cleaners
Stone cleaners labelled pH-neutral clean without stripping sealer. Mild dish soap works too. Skip bleach, vinegar, ammonia and abrasive powders for daily use.
Reseal Scheduling
We set your reseal reminder from install day: 18 months for most kitchens, 12-15 for leathered finishes and heavy-use surfaces.
Care-Plan Visits
Every 18 months we test, deep clean, reseal and check edges for chips, all in one visit for $350-$950.

The Water-Drop Test
- Put a few drops of water near the sink, by the range and on the island.
- Wait ten minutes.
- Wipe the drops away.
- If the stone looks darker where the drops were, it is absorbing water. Time to reseal.

Seasonal Tips for Ontario Homes
- Winter: dry air and salt tracked in on boots do not hurt indoor counters, but outdoor quartzite needs snow cleared with plastic, not metal.
- Spring: a good time for the annual water-drop test.
- Summer: sunny windows will not fade quartzite, unlike quartz.
- Holidays: heavy cooking season. Reseal before Thanksgiving or Diwali if you are near the 18-month mark.
