Quartzite Polishing and Restoration in Toronto, ON | Chip Repair, Etch Removal & Re-Honing

Quartzite Countertops Toronto handles quartzite polishing and restoration for kitchens, condos and commercial builds in Toronto and the GTA. Real quartzite is a metamorphic sandstone at 7 Mohs and acid-resistant, so most damage we see is chips, dull spots, stains or etching on stone that turned out to be dolomite. We repair in your home with colour-matched resin and diamond pads, using the same polishing know-how as our Park Industries CNC and Flow Mach 500 shop, and source matching material from Stone Tile, Ciot and Marsala when needed. That is 22 years of fixing stone.

Restoration projects run $450-$1,850. Chip repair is $185-$450 and re-polishing $45-$95 per linear foot. We restore Taj Mahal, Super White, Mont Blanc, Sea Pearl and all other quartzites. Visits are done by WSIB-covered staff with $5M CGL, NSI-compliant methods and a written workmanship warranty across Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham and the rest of the GTA.

Restoring Quartzite in Your Home

Most quartzite damage is small and fixable. A chip where a cast iron pan caught the edge by the dishwasher. A dull strip along the front where years of wiping wore down the polish. An oil shadow beside the range. And sometimes, rings that keep appearing on a stone that was sold as quartzite but turns out to be dolomite.

Real quartzite is a metamorphic sandstone around 7 Mohs that does not etch from acids, so a restoration visit usually means chip repair, re-polishing and resealing. If your stone is etching, we test it and tell you what it really is, then fix it accordingly.

Types of Restoration We Do

Etch Removal

For dolomitic stones sold as quartzite, and for marble. We remove dull etch rings by honing with diamond pads, then polish or leave honed to match.

Chip Repair

Colour-matched UV-cure resin, applied in layers, levelled and polished. Edges are re-profiled so the repair follows the original shape. $185-$450.

Re-Polish

Brings back shine on polished surfaces that have gone dull from wear or harsh cleaners. $45-$95 per linear foot.

Re-Honing

Evens out honed and leathered surfaces with dull spots, light scratches or etches.

Why Some “Quartzite” Etches

If your counter etches from lemon or wine, it is not acting like quartzite. Super White, white quartzites and Fantasy Brown are the stones most often mislabelled. Ours are tested at the yard before purchase, but many homeowners inherit installs where nobody checked. It still blows our mind how often homeowners inherit a chipped marble install from a weekend fabricator and only discover the acid-etch damage after the first glass of red wine.

We can hone those etches out and set you up with a care plan. If you are ready to replace it with tested quartzite, see white quartzite countertops or quartzite vs marble.

Preventing Damage After Restoration

  • Ease sharp corners near the dishwasher and sink.
  • Use trivets for cast iron and cutting boards for knives.
  • Switch to a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
  • Reseal every 18 months with our quartzite sealing service.
  • Follow the routines on quartzite maintenance and care.

Straight Talk

What Actually Stops Toronto Homeowners From Booking Polishing & Restoration

In our opinion, these four questions decide most bookings. Here are the straight answers.

"Wouldn't it be cheaper to just replace the counter?"

In our opinion, almost never. A full kitchen replacement starts around $5,500. Most restoration jobs run $450-$1,850 and take a few hours. We only suggest replacement when there is structural cracking or the stone is badly mislabelled.

"If I am replacing it anyway, why not switch to quartz?"

You can, but a restored quartzite counter keeps its heat and UV resistance. Quartz chips are also hard to repair invisibly because of the resin. Restoring stone you already own is usually the better value.

"Will a repaired chip just chip again?"

A properly filled chip with UV-cure resin and a re-profiled edge is often stronger than the original sharp corner. We also ease the edge slightly so it is less likely to catch.

"Does restoration mean resealing too?"

Polishing opens the surface, so we reseal the restored area at minimum. Many clients add a full Dry-Treat reseal for $350-$950 on the same visit.

Precision Workflow

How Our Polishing & Restoration Process Works, 5 Steps

  1. Step 1: Assessment & Stone Identification

We inspect the damage and confirm the stone. If your quartzite is etching, it is likely dolomite or marble, which changes the repair plan. We may source a matching offcut from Stone Tile, Ciot or Marsala for colour reference.

  2. Step 2: Mapping the Repair

We photograph and measure chips, etches, stains and dull areas, then quote each one. Edge damage is profiled so the repair matches the existing edge exactly.

  3. Step 3: Colour-Matched Fills & Diamond Work

Handyman fixes with hardware-store epoxy turn yellow and stand out. We tint UV-cure resin to your stone, fill in thin layers, then level with diamond pads matched to the finish.

  4. Step 4: Hand-Polishing & Sealing by Marco's Team

Marco Delvecchio trained our restoration techs on the same Marmo Meccanica grit sequence the shop uses, so polish or hone levels blend in. The area is then sealed with Dry-Treat Stain-Proof.

  5. Step 5: Final Check & Care Plan

We check the repair under raking light, run a water-drop test and leave you a care plan and reseal date.

Got Questions?

Polishing & Restoration FAQ

How much does quartzite polishing and restoration cost in Toronto?

Restoration projects run $450-$1,850 in CAD. A single chip repair is $185-$450. Re-polishing runs $45-$95 per linear foot depending on finish and damage. Etch removal and re-honing on dolomitic stones usually lands at $600-$1,850 for a kitchen. Adding a full reseal costs $350-$950. We quote each chip, etch and stain separately so you can prioritise.

Can you repair a chip in quartzite?

Yes. We clean the chip, fill it with UV-cure resin tinted to your stone, level it with diamond pads and polish to match. Most chips become very hard to find.

Can etch marks be removed?

Yes. If your stone etches, it is probably dolomite or marble. We remove etches by honing with diamond pads and, on light etches, polishing compounds. They can return with acid contact.

What is re-honing?

Re-honing takes a honed or leathered surface back to an even matte finish by lightly grinding with diamond pads. It removes dull spots, light scratches and etches.

Can you remove stains from quartzite?

Often. Oil and organic stains can be drawn out with a poultice over 24-48 hours. Old, deep stains may lighten rather than vanish.

Can you fix a crack?

Hairline cracks can be stabilised and filled with resin. Cracks caused by poor support need the support fixed first. Structural cracks sometimes mean a replacement piece.

Do you restore stone you didn't install?

Yes. Most of our restoration work is on stone installed by other fabricators.

How long does a restoration visit take?

A chip repair takes about an hour. A full kitchen re-polish or re-hone takes most of a day.

Is it messy?

We work wet with slurry control and mask cabinets and floors. You will not find stone dust through the house.

Do you restore marble and granite?

Yes. We hone, polish, remove etches and repair chips on marble and granite too.
