Quartzite Installation Done by Stone People
Installing quartzite is not the same as installing cabinets or laminate. A 3cm slab weighs roughly 20 lbs per square foot, a long perimeter piece can top 400 lbs and a narrow section around a sink can crack if it is lifted wrong. Quartzite is a hard, dense metamorphic sandstone, about 7 Mohs and acid-resistant, and that density is exactly what makes it both durable and unforgiving on install day.
Our installers are our own WSIB-cleared employees, not subcontractors. They work in two-person crews with vacuum lifters, A-frames and a seam setter, and they install the same pieces our shop fabricated the week before.
Types of Installation Work We Handle
Kitchen Installs
L-shape, galley and open-concept kitchens. Most are set, seamed, caulked and sealed in one appointment.
Island Installs
Single-slab, bookmatched and jumbo islands, including steel flat bar or corbel supports for deep overhangs. Waterfall islands use mitre clamps and Tenax epoxy.
Client-Supplied Slab Installs
Bought a slab already? We inspect it for fissures and resin fills, template, fabricate and install it at $85-$150/sqft. If we find a problem, we show you before cutting.
Sink and Cooktop Cut-Outs
Undermount sinks, farmhouse sinks, cooktops and faucet holes are cut on the CNC in our shop, never with a grinder on your kitchen floor.
What Happens on Install Day
- Arrival and protection. Floors, stairs and door frames are covered. Pieces arrive on padded A-frames.
- Cabinet check. Every cabinet is checked for level and shimmed where needed. A plywood sub-top goes on where support is thin.
- Setting. Pieces go in with vacuum lifters. Narrow sections near sinks get steel rod reinforcement.
- Seams. A seam setter pulls joints flush, and Akemi colour-matched epoxy fills them.
- Sink. The undermount sink is glued, clipped and silicone sealed.
- Finish. Silicone perimeter caulking, a final Dry-Treat Stain-Proof seal and a full clean-up.

Insurance and Paperwork
Every crew is WSIB-cleared, and the company carries $5M commercial general liability plus $2M property damage. Every load is covered by 1,100 lb delivery insurance. For condos, we send certificates to your property manager before install day and book the freight elevator. For commercial sites, see commercial quartzite countertops.
Installing Your Own Slab: What to Expect
Buying a slab yourself can work well, but slabs sometimes hide resin-filled fissures or soft spots under the polish. We inspect before cutting, plan cut-outs around weak areas and tell you straight if a slab is risky. Nine times out of ten, this is where the previous fabricator cut a corner: they cut first and looked later.
After the Install
Your plumber connects the sink the next day. Avoid heavy weight on overhangs for 24 hours while the epoxy cures. After that, the kitchen is yours. The first reseal is about 18 months out; our quartzite sealing team will remind you. For how the pieces were made, see quartzite fabrication.
