Quartzite Backsplash in Toronto, ON | Full-Height Slab, Bookmatched Range Walls & 4-Inch Splash

Quartzite Countertops Toronto handles quartzite backsplashes across kitchens, condos and commercial builds in Toronto and the GTA. A slab backsplash is natural metamorphic sandstone at 7 Mohs, acid-resistant and grout-free, so tomato sauce and oil splatter wipe straight off. We laser template every outlet and window, cut on our Park Industries CNC bridge saw and Flow Mach 500 waterjet, and pull matching slabs from Stone Tile, Ciot and Marsala so the vein runs from counter to ceiling, a detail we have perfected over 22 years.

Quartzite backsplashes run $1,200-$4,500 installed. Super White, Taj Mahal, Cristallo, Mont Blanc and Sea Pearl are in stock. Every install carries WSIB coverage, $5M CGL, NSI compliance and a written 2-year warranty across Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham and the rest of the GTA.

Why a Quartzite Slab Backsplash?

Tile backsplashes have grout lines that trap grease and need scrubbing and resealing. A quartzite slab backsplash is one continuous surface of natural metamorphic stone, about 7 Mohs and acid-resistant. Splatter from tomato sauce, lemon and oil wipes off, and there is no grout to discolour.

The real magic is continuity. When the backsplash comes from the same slab bundle as your counters, the vein can run from the countertop straight up the wall. It makes the whole kitchen look carved from one block.

Types of Quartzite Backsplashes We Fabricate

Full-Height Slab Backsplash

From the counter to the underside of the upper cabinets, or all the way to the ceiling. Usually 2cm slab to keep weight sensible, with every outlet laser templated and waterjet cut.

Bookmatched Range Wall

Two mirrored slabs behind the range and hood, meeting at a centre seam. It is the most dramatic backsplash we build, and it suits Taj Mahal and Super White best.

4-Inch Splash

A simple strip along the counter, often cut from offcuts. It protects the wall and costs very little when it comes from your counter slab.

Outlet and Window Cut-Outs

Outlets, switches, window returns and hood brackets are templated with the laser and cut on the waterjet with radiused corners to prevent cracks.

Planning a Full-Height Backsplash

  1. Choose the slab with the counters. Backsplash pieces should come from the same bundle.
  2. Decide the height. Under the uppers, to the hood or to the ceiling.
  3. Mark every outlet. Moving an outlet a few inches can keep it out of the main vein.
  4. Plan the hood. Brackets and duct covers need cut-outs or notches.
  5. Check the wall. It must be flat and sound; we can shim minor dips.

Backlit Backsplashes

If you want a backsplash that glows, it has to be a translucent stone. Cristallo quartzite is the one we use, set over an LED light guide plate with an access hatch. Our Forest Hill job ran 112 sqft of backlit Cristallo against walnut cabinetry.

Caring for a Slab Backsplash

Wipe splatter while it is fresh, especially oil behind the range. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Reseal every 18 months, which takes a few minutes on a wall. Planning counters at the same time? Start with quartzite kitchen countertops.

Straight Talk

What Actually Stops Toronto Homeowners From Booking Backsplash

In our opinion, these four questions decide most bookings. Here are the straight answers.

"Isn't a slab backsplash much more than tile?"

In our opinion, a slab splash is the best value upgrade in a kitchen. A full-height backsplash runs $1,200-$4,500 and replaces tile, grout, sealing grout and regrouting forever. Often it is cut from the same slab bundle as your counters.

"Wouldn't porcelain or quartz panels be easier?"

Thin porcelain panels are light, but outlet cut-outs and corners chip and show a plain body. Quartz behind a range can discolour from heat. Quartzite handles both.

"Will cut-outs for outlets crack the stone?"

Not when they are waterjet cut with radiused corners. Square-cornered cut-outs made with a grinder are what crack. Every outlet on our splashes goes through the Flow Mach 500.

"Does a backsplash need sealing too?"

Yes, especially behind the range where oil splatters. Dry-Treat Stain-Proof lasts about 18 months and takes minutes to reapply on a vertical surface.

Precision Workflow

How Our Backsplash Process Works, 5 Steps

  1. Step 1: Slab Planning for Vein Continuity

We reserve backsplash slabs from the same bundle as your counters at Stone Tile, Ciot or Marsala, and plan which slab feeds which wall so the vein continues upward.

  2. Step 2: Laser Templating Every Opening

Our LT-2D3D laser templater captures the wall to 1/16 inch, including outlets, switches, window returns, hood brackets and out-of-plumb corners.

  3. Step 3: Waterjet Cut-Outs, Not Grinders

A lot of installers cut outlet holes on site with a grinder, which leaves chips and stress cracks. We waterjet every opening on our Flow Mach 500 and cut panels on the Park Industries CNC.

  4. Step 4: Hand-Polishing & Sealing by Marco

Marco Delvecchio checks the vein line from counter to splash and polishes every exposed edge on the Marmo Meccanica line before a Dry-Treat Stain-Proof seal.

  5. Step 5: Clean Installation After the Counters

A WSIB-cleared crew sets the splash with construction adhesive and mechanical support, aligns panels to the counter vein and caulks. Your electrician fits box extenders and cover plates.

Got Questions?

Backsplash FAQ

How much does a quartzite backsplash cost in Toronto?

Quartzite backsplashes run $1,200-$4,500 installed in CAD. A 4-inch splash cut from counter offcuts is often a few hundred dollars. A full-height backsplash on one wall runs $1,200-$2,800, and a bookmatched range wall or multi-wall full-height splash runs $2,800-$4,500. Backlit Cristallo walls are priced separately. Outlets, window returns and mitred corners are listed on the quote.

What thickness is used for a backsplash?

We usually use 2cm slab for full-height walls to save weight, and match the counter edge with a 3cm or mitred return where it shows.

Can the backsplash vein continue from the countertop?

Yes. We plan backsplash and counter pieces from the same slab or consecutive slabs so the vein runs upward. It is our most requested detail.

How do you handle outlets?

We laser template every box, waterjet cut the openings with radiused corners, and your electrician fits box extenders so cover plates sit flush.

Can a slab backsplash go behind a gas range?

Yes. Quartzite handles heat well. We follow the range manufacturer's clearances and seal the area well against oil.

What is a bookmatched range wall?

Two consecutive slabs mirrored so their veins meet in the middle behind the range or hood. It creates a symmetrical, almost butterfly pattern.

Can you install a backsplash on existing counters?

Yes. We match stone as closely as we can or suggest a complementary quartzite. The wall must be flat and sound.

How long does a backsplash take?

It is usually installed the same week as your counters, or within 1-2 weeks if added later.

Can you backlight a quartzite backsplash?

Only translucent stones like Cristallo pass light. See our Cristallo page for backlit walls.
