What Is Super White Quartzite?
Super White is a Brazilian stone with a white to pale grey base and soft, smoky grey veining that looks almost brushed on. When it is a true quartzite, it is a metamorphic sandstone around 7 on the Mohs scale that does not etch from acids. That combination, the look of marble with the toughness of quartzite, is why it has been one of the most requested white stones in the GTA for years.
The honest truth is that Super White has a reputation problem. It is sold under the same name whether a lot is genuine quartzite or dolomite. Dolomite looks nearly identical, but it is softer and it etches. So we treat Super White as a stone you test first and buy second.
Types of Super White Work We Fabricate
Super White Kitchen Perimeters
Perimeter counters in polished or honed Super White, with seams planned where the veining naturally changes direction.
Super White Full-Height Backsplash
Our signature Super White job. The slab continues from the countertop up the wall to the range hood, with outlets and window returns cut on the waterjet so the vein flows without a break.
Super White Islands
Islands up to about 10 feet usually come from one slab. The smoky veins look best running along the long side.
Lot Testing Before Purchase
Every Super White lot is lemon-tested, vinegar-tested and glass-scratched at the yard. We also check for resin-filled fissures, which are common on this stone.
Our 3-Step Super White Check
- Etch test. Lemon juice and vinegar on a polished offcut. Any dull ring and we walk away.
- Scratch test. True quartzite scratches glass. Dolomite does not.
- Fissure check. We look at the slab at an angle under light for clear resin fills. A fill along a sink cut-out or overhang is a deal-breaker.
A recent client in The Annex is a good example. We flagged a resin-filled fissure at the yard before she paid for the slab, swapped to a cleaner one and finished the Super White perimeter with a full-height splash in four weeks.

Planning a Full-Height Super White Backsplash
A full-height backsplash is where Super White earns its price. Our quartzite backsplash page covers the details, but the short version is this: we usually use a 2cm slab on the wall, laser template every outlet and window, and plan the slab so the vein continues from the counter edge upward. We coordinate with your electrician on box extenders so cover plates sit flush.
Caring for Super White
Wipe spills promptly and clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Reseal every 18 months. If an older, untested Super White in your home has already etched, our quartzite polishing and restoration team can often hone the marks out.
