Commercial Quartzite for GTA Condos, Restaurants, Hotels and Retail
Commercial stone work is about three things: consistency, schedule and compliance. Every unit in a condo tower needs to match. A restaurant cannot close for two days while a bar top cures. And every installation has to satisfy an inspector.
We have done commercial work for 22 years, from 18-ft restaurant bars to 18-unit condo packages. Everything is fabricated in our own Vaughan shop on a Park Industries CNC and Flow Mach 500 waterjet, and installed by our own WSIB-cleared crews. Quartzite, a metamorphic sandstone around 7 Mohs that resists acids and heat, is built for the abuse commercial counters take.
Types of Commercial Work We Fabricate
Multi-Unit Condo (12-24 Units)
Full bundles bought up front so every suite matches, CAD-nested together to cut waste, labelled by suite and floor and installed floor by floor around other trades. $45,000-$95,000.
Boutique Retail Counters
Checkout counters, display plinths and fitting room vanities, often with waterfall ends or mitred fronts. Installed overnight so you never close. $22,000-$68,000.
Hotel Reception Desks
Bookmatched fronts, mitred corners, transaction ledges on steel cantilevers and optional backlit Cristallo panels. $18,000-$55,000.
Restaurant Bar Tops
12-18 ft bars, usually Mont Blanc, with mitred waterfall ends and steel-supported overhangs. Templated after closing and installed in an overnight window. $15,000-$32,000.
The 5-Point Compliance Checklist Every Commercial Stone Project Must Pass
1. Structural Support
Overhangs and cantilevers need engineered support: steel flat bar, brackets or substructure sized for the load. Most failed bar tops we have replaced were simply unsupported.
2. Anchoring and Attachment
Vertical cladding and desk fronts need mechanical anchoring, including seismic anchor clips where required, not just adhesive.
3. Material Standards
Stone should meet the relevant ASTM standards, such as ASTM C615 for granite-type dimension stone and the quartz-based classification for quartzite, with documentation available for the inspector.
4. Installation Standards
Installation follows CSA A126 and the NSI Dimension Stone Design Manual: correct joints, sealants, clearances and movement allowances.
5. Site Safety and Paperwork
WSIB clearance certificates, $5M CGL, crane lift plans where needed and coordination with the general contractor’s OBC Part 3 requirements.
First-visit sign-off
We never promise permit approval, because no one honestly can. What we can tell you is that 97% of our commercial jobs sign off on the first visit, because the checklist above is built into how we template, fabricate and install.
