Slabs that will not turn a Victorian staircase
The kitchen is measured and the slab is paid for, then install day stalls at a narrow turn on the stairs or a hallway that is not square.
Why it happens here: Rosedale, Annex and Riverdale houses built between 1860 and 1930 have tight staircases, plaster walls and corners that drifted out of square a century ago.
How we fix it: We laser template every wall, measure each stair turn and cut the kitchen countertops into pieces that clear the route, with seams placed by the sink or range.
The showroom only quoted quartz
Many showrooms do not carry real quartzite and steer you to engineered quartz. If you wanted natural stone, you were never shown it.

A lot of shops still run dry blades that stress the stone and leave micro-fissures on the cut line. We cut on a flooded diamond Park Industries CNC bridge saw and mitre on our Flow Mach 500 waterjet.

Step 4: Hand-Polishing & Sealing by Marco
Marco Delvecchio checks every mitred seam and vein match before the edges go through the Marmo Meccanica polisher and the stone gets a Dry-Treat Stain-Proof impregnating seal.

A WSIB-cleared two-person crew levels, sets and seams your stone with Akemi colour-matched epoxy, caulks the perimeter and leaves the kitchen broom-clean, usually in one appointment.

The old city has every kind of kitchen, and each one asks for something different from the stone. Rosedale homes alone went up between 1860 and 1930, and South and North Rosedale are both Heritage Conservation Districts, so most of what we template here is older than the cabinets inside it.
Victorian and Edwardian semis in Riverdale, Leslieville and The Annex rarely have a square wall. Our LT-2D3D laser templater captures every angle to 1/16 inch, so a 1910 kitchen gets counters that sit tight to every corner.
Rosedale and Moore Park brownstones often have galley kitchens with long runs and a tight staircase. Honed Taj Mahal is a favourite here; one recent galley came in at $6,800 in two weeks.

How We Get Stone Into Downtown Toronto Homes
Our dispatch runs down Highway 400 and the 401 from Vaughan, then across Bloor, Davenport or the Don Valley Parkway depending on the neighbourhood. Templating appointments downtown are booked within 3 business days of your call.
Downtown access is the real challenge, so we plan it at templating:
- Street parking. On many Beaches, Riverdale and Annex streets we arrange a City of Toronto temporary parking permit so the truck can sit out front.
- Narrow stairs and halls. Victorian semis and brownstones often have 30-inch staircases. We measure every turn and size pieces so they clear, then hide the seams near the sink or range.
- Condo freight elevators. In Yorkville and along Yonge, we book the freight elevator and loading dock with your property manager and send our WSIB and $5M CGL certificates ahead.
- Install windows. Most downtown installs run 8 am to 3 pm, inside typical condo work hours.
Once the stone is on site, a two-person crew sets, seams and seals most kitchens in one visit.

How fast can you template in downtown Toronto?
Within 3 business days for The Beaches, Rosedale, Forest Hill, Yorkville and Lawrence Park, and usually the same for Riverdale, The Annex and Summerhill. Fabrication then takes about 2-3 weeks for in-stock stones like Taj Mahal and Mont Blanc.
Can you get slabs into a Victorian semi with a narrow staircase?
Yes. We plan seams and piece sizes at templating so every section clears your stairs and halls. Seams are placed by the sink or range, where they are least visible.
Does a Rosedale heritage district home need approval for new counters?
Usually not. The South and North Rosedale Heritage Conservation District plans deal with exteriors and the streetscape, and a countertop swap is interior work. If your house is individually designated, check with Heritage Planning first.
Who arranges street parking for the truck?
We do. On permit streets we buy a City of Toronto temporary parking permit for install day, and if the truck has to occupy part of the road we apply for a Street Occupation Permit.
Do you handle freight elevators in Yorkville condos?
Yes. We book the freight elevator and loading dock with your property manager, send WSIB and $5M CGL certificates ahead and work inside the building's approved hours.
