## Quartzite Kitchen Countertops, Start to Finish

A kitchen is the job we do most. Over 22 years we have fabricated more than 1,400 GTA kitchens in natural quartzite, from tiny condo galleys to 85 sqft open-concept plans with waterfall islands. Every one of them goes through the same shop: laser templating, CNC cutting, hand polishing and a one-day install by our own crew.

Quartzite suits kitchens because it is a metamorphic sandstone around 7 Mohs, resists acids from lemon, tomato and wine, handles hot pans past 300C and never yellows. It has the look of marble with a much tougher surface.

## Types of Quartzite Kitchens We Build

### L-Shape Kitchens

The most common layout in GTA homes. A 45-55 sqft L-shape usually needs one corner seam, which we place where it is least visible. Price: $5,500-$9,800.

### Galley Kitchens

Long parallel runs, typical of condos, semis and Victorian rowhouses. Galley kitchens show vein direction clearly, so we keep the flow consistent on both sides. Our Rosedale brownstone galley in honed Taj Mahal came to $6,800 in two weeks.

### Open-Concept Islands

Big open kitchens with a perimeter and a central island, 65-85 sqft total. The island usually gets the best piece of the slab. Price: $9,500-$18,000.

### Mitred Edges

A mitred edge joins a strip of stone at 45 degrees to make the counter look 2 inches or thicker. It is cut on our Flow Mach 500 waterjet so the vein wraps the edge.

## The 6 Edge Profiles for Toronto Quartzite Kitchens, Compared

The edge you choose changes how the counter looks, how it feels against your hip and how it handles knocks. Here are the six we cut most.

### 1\. Eased Edge

A square edge with the sharp corners lightly rounded. Clean, modern and the most chip-resistant everyday choice. Included in every quote.

### 2\. Half Bullnose

Rounded on top, square underneath. Softer on the hip, a good fit for family kitchens and older homes.

### 3\. Full Bullnose

Rounded top and bottom. Very soft and traditional, best for vanities and period kitchens.

### 4\. Ogee

An S-shaped decorative curve. Classic in traditional and French-country kitchens. Takes more polishing time.

## What Happens on Install Day

1.  Floors and cabinets get covered, and the crew checks every cabinet for level.
2.  Pieces come in on A-frames and vacuum lifters. In condos we use the booked freight elevator.
3.  Seams are pulled flush with a seam setter and bonded with Akemi colour-matched epoxy.
4.  The undermount sink is glued and clipped, faucet holes are confirmed, and narrow sections get rod reinforcement.
5.  Perimeter is caulked with silicone, the stone is sealed with Dry-Treat Stain-Proof and the kitchen is cleaned.

Most kitchens are done in one appointment. Your plumber can connect the sink the next day once the epoxy has cured.

### How much do quartzite kitchen countertops cost in Toronto?

An L-shape kitchen of 45-55 sqft runs $5,500-$9,800 installed in CAD, and an open-concept kitchen with an island at 65-85 sqft runs $9,500-$18,000. Where you land depends on the stone ($70-$280/sqft), finish, edge, number of cut-outs and how much of the slab your layout uses. ### How long does a quartzite kitchen take from start to finish?

### Do I need my cabinets installed before templating?

Yes. Cabinets need to be installed, level and secured. Appliances should be on site or you should have the spec sheets. We check level at templating.

### How many seams will my kitchen have?

It depends on run lengths and slab size. A typical L-shape has one or two. We place seams where the eye does not stop, near the sink or range, and we show you the seam plan before cutting.

### What sink can I use with quartzite?

Undermount stainless, composite or fireclay sinks are most common. Farmhouse sinks work with a notched front. Send us the model number and we template to it.

### Can you remove my old counters?

Yes. Removal and disposal of laminate, granite or quartz is quoted on its own line, and our crew handles it on install day.

### Which edge profile is best for a kitchen?

Eased is the most practical and is included. Ogee and bullnose suit traditional kitchens. Mitred edges make the stone look thicker and suit modern islands.

### Do I need a backsplash in the same stone?

No, but a 4-inch splash or full-height slab backsplash in matching quartzite looks clean. Full-height splashes run $1,200-$4,500.

### Can quartzite handle a gas range right next to it?

Yes. Quartzite handles heat past 300C. We leave the manufacturer's recommended gap and support thin sections near cooktops.

### What warranty comes with a kitchen?

A written 2-year workmanship warranty covering seams, adhesion, cut-outs and fabrication, plus WSIB and $5M CGL coverage while we work.

### Can you match my kitchen counters in the bathroom?

Often from the same bundle. We nest vanity tops into your kitchen slab offcuts when there is room.
